This has been my companion for 30 years! It's challenging enough to keep me interested but not so hard that I give up. They're the most intelligent but down to earth crossword's I've ever come across. I hate the "easy" ones, but I just get frustrated and quit when being fluent in ten languages and having a degree in mythology is required. So I whole heartedly recommend the Herald Tribune Crosswords!
